Д-р Улан Касымов является ассоциированным профессором DAAD на кафедре экономики Американского университета в Центральной Азии, а также преподавателем в Группы по Экономике Ресурсов Берлинского университета имени Гумбольдта. Он защитил докторскую диссертацию по экономике сельского хозяйства в Берлинском университете имени Гумбольдта (2016 г., Германия) и в настоящее время проходит там процедуру хабилитации. 

Д-р Касымов обладает обширным опытом проведения научных исследований в Центральной Азии и Монголии в области экологического управления земельными и водными ресурсами. В период с 2016 по 2025 год он работал научным сотрудником в Группе по Экономике Ресурсов Берлинского университета имени Гумбольдта, а также на кафедре Экосистемных Услуг Дрезденского технического университета. Он читал лекции и участвовал в ряде исследовательских проектов, финансируемых Министерством науки, технологий и космоса Германии и реализуемых в регионе Центральной Азии и Монголии. Один из них исследовательский проект «MORE STEP» в Монголии. Целью этого междисциплинарного исследования был анализ социально-экологической динамики экосистемы монгольской степи с целью выявления необратимых процессов и их предотвращения на ранней стадии. Д-р Касымов анализировал существующие стратегии в области рационального использования и сохранения пастбищ.

В 2017 году при АУКА был открыт Центр по вопросам окружающей среды и развития, и Д-р Касымов присоединился к нему в качестве исследователя. В 2026 году он начал работать в АУЦА в качестве ассоциированного профессора по программе DAAD.
